Collaborative Design

Description

Resolve conflicting viewpoints about an issue sufficiently to work together to design a plan, policy or tangible object within a given set of constraints.

Instructional Purpose

To learn factual information relevant to the issue as well as the associated opinions of the participants; to learn to use consensus building techniques; to develop an understanding of how to create a project within constraints.

Applicability

Can be used to develop plans for controversial issues such as urban rehab, new building projects, land use, or policies for such things as computer use, book purchases and web filtering at schools and libraries.

Limitations

This model should only be used when conflict will impact the creation of the final project.
