Introduction

Historical events personalities have always been the subject of fiction--short stories, novels, plays, television dramas, and movies. In this WebQuest, you will have the structure and tools necessary to plan, write, and publish a short story based on an historical event or a personality from history.

Task

[First, using internet and library resources, you will find and outline information about a specific period of history or about a personality from history. You'll use that research as the basis of a short story which illustrates the importance of that event or personality. Your original short story will be interesting to read, reflect an understanding of the historical event or personality, and demonstrate effective use of literary techniques and the elements of creative writing.]

Process

  1. Read a short story based on an event in history.
  2. Complete a graphic organizer which summarizes the elements in the story.
  3. Review examples of themes from literature.
  4. Evaluate several titles of short stories and predict the theme and plot elements.
  5. Review examples of historical themes and events.
  6. Locate and evaluate Internet resources for a specific event in history or a personality from history.
  7. Used the Facts and Information Form to organize the information for use in your short story.
  8. Using the Story Elements Chart, the student will select a combination of elements to include a specific theme, setting, character(s), conflict, plot.
